As a dance teacher, the most common question is, what age should my child start dancing?
And my answer is really really annoying…! Every child is different so there is no one size fits all age. Sorry! Not sorry! There just isn’t.
There is no right age that your child should start dancing but there is a right time. And they’re already telling you in their movement and in the spaces they find joy. Generally, our kids guide us to what they’re attracted to without even knowing it.
SO, my next answer is far less annoying and that is to stand back and look at your child then ask yourself these questions:
Does my child love to move & dance?
Does my child naturally move when music comes on?
Does my child LOVE music?
And, can my child easily separate from me?
If the answer to these questions is yes, then yes! Your child should start dancing today!
And they should start dancing right now!
Not sure, what style of dance they’d like….? I’d suggest starting with ballet (and yes, I am a ballet teacher so yes I am biased) as its a great starting foundation for your child to move anywhere! A good ballet class for little people will cover movement, music & rhythm, and creativity so that will set your child up for any dance class they want in the future.
