As we start the year & you’re looking at what classes your child should do, you need to consider if your child might do an exam. Ballet exams for your child serve various purposes for dancers, teachers, and institutions involved in ballet training.

There are many reasons why you should consider ballet exams for your child and deciding early will help them prepare.

Obviously, not all kids will be ready or even want to do them but here are a few reasons why you might do them:

A Structured Progression:

Ballet exams provide a structured framework for your child to progress through different levels of proficiency. Each exam level builds upon the skills and techniques learned in the previous levels, ensuring a gradual and comprehensive learning process. Of course, if you choose not to do an exam, we will still work with your child tom improve their skills and technique.

Assessment of Technique & Skill:

Exams allow your child to be assessed objectively by external, qualified examiners. This assessment covers various aspects of ballet technique, including posture, alignment, turnout, flexibility, musicality, and artistry. This feedback allows your child to focus on areas that need improvement and refine their technique

Goal Setting and Motivation: (this is my favourite one!)

Working towards a ballet exam provides dancers with clear goals to strive for. This can be highly motivating….lets face it sometimes we need motivation. They can  help your child maintain focus and discipline in training. Achieving success in exams can boost confidence and provide a sense of accomplishment.

Preparation for Performance and Auditions….not just the ballet kind!:

The discipline and technique acquired through preparing for ballet exams can also benefit dancers in other aspects of their dance careers, including performances and auditions. The rigorous training required for exams helps dancers develop the strength, stamina, and precision necessary for professional dance settings.

Sense of Achievement: (my second favourite one!)

Successfully completing ballet exams represents a significant milestone in your child’s dance training journey. For some students performing their work by themselves is the most wonderful achievement in itself. The certificate in itself is tangible and feels good!

We know all the benefits of ballet and ballet exams add to that.

Ballet exams play a crucial role in the development and advancement of ballet dancers, offering valuable opportunities for learning, growth, and recognition within the dance community.
